F.C. Artist to Debut Tropical Art at FIRSTfriday Reception

Dorothea Potter Teipel, a Falls Church artist affiliated with Falls Church Arts, will debut new works of art at an exhibit opening at Art and Frame of Falls Church, 111 Park Ave., next Friday, Aug. 2.

The reception, to be held from 6 – 8 p.m., is part of FIRSTfriday of Falls Church. Her show will be on display for the month.

The current exhibit will feature characters and mermaids in various poses. Teipel has been featuring red people in her work as a new interpretation of the figure in the context of fashion and fantasy. The exhibit also includes several paintings about Hawaii. Tropical influences have been part of her work since before showing professionally in 1991. She lived in Honolulu with her family on a boat docked at the Ilikai Harbor, where nightly sunsets entertained in spectacular colors.

Teipel, a member of Falls Church Arts, currently has two paintings from the “En Plein Air” show mounted at the FCA gallery at 410 S. Maple Ave. Her work is also on display at The Blue Moon in Rehoboth, where she has been showing since 1991.
