3 Local Students Earn College-Sponsored Merit Scholarships

Three local students have received National Merit Scholarships financed by the colleges and universities they plan to attend.

Meagan C. David of Falls Church, a graduate of Bishop O’Connell High School, received the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University Scholarship. She plans to pursue a career in engineering.

Joshua D. Higbee of McLean, a graduate of McLean High School, received the Brigham Young University Scholarship. He plans to pursue a career in economics.

Nicholas M. Kemp of McLean, a graduate of George C. Marshall High School, received the Northwestern University Scholarship. He plans to pursue a career in music.

Officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program who will attend their institution. College-sponsored awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.
