Local Filmmaker Takes 2nd in ‘Indie Gathering’ Film Contest

Local filmmaker Mark Byrne and Absurd Productions Pictures have been awarded second prize in the Feature Drama category at the 2013 Indie Gathering film festival near Cleveland for “Small Fish Small Pond.”

The film, centered on a drunken writer’s quest for immortality, was shot mostly in Falls Church at Hoang’s Grill and Sushi Bar with an additional seen shot at Clare and Don’s Beach Shack.

The film has been selected to screen at the festival on Aug. 17 at the Clarion Inn and Conference Center in Hudson, Ohio. All films must receive a 90 out of 100 score or higher from judges to be eligible for an award. This is the fourth straight year that Byrne has received a national film award at The Indie Gathering.
