F.C. School Wins Keep Virginia Beautiful Grant

Keep Virginia Beautiful has awarded Pine Springs Elementary School in Falls Church a $500 grant for efforts in environmental education and awareness.

The school has a two-pronged approach to tackling environmental awareness: First is litter prevention and clean-up, and second is recycling. The students of PSES have designed their own device for picking up litter on their campus and they would like to build more of these litter-picker-uppers to help clean-up their campus and the surrounding community. Additionally, they would like to expand their recycling program to include bottles and cans. PSES currently has a recycling program but they see the need for improvement and more student involvement and awareness, which the grant can be used to address.
