Following a briefing on how transportation funds authorized by the Virginia State Legislature last winter will apply to the City of Falls Church tonight, the F.C. Planning Commission voted unanimously to approve the projected five potential transportation uses already designated by the City from earlier efforts at the same thing.

The projects are, in order, 1. Phase II of transit alternative analyses for Route 7 (such as between light rail, bus rapid transit, streetcar), 2. Improved pedestrian access to transit (completing pedestrian connections to the Intermodal Plaza being designed for S. Washington St.), 3. Bus shelters along Broad St., 4. A pedestrian bridge on Van Buren St.and, 5. Pedestrian signals at Columbia St. and N. Washington St. The preferences will be forwarded to the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission (NVTC) for a hearing Thursday night.

The F.C. City Council, at its work session tonight, received a briefing on the implementation of the 2013 General Assembly Transportation Funding opportunities from Assistant City Manager Cindy Mester, the City’s representative on the newly-created Transit Service Delivery Advisory Committee (TSDAC), provided the briefing to the Council, and subsequently in another location shortly afterwards City Planner Paul Stoddard presented the plan to the Planning Commission.
