F.C.’s Barrett Named Head of NOVA Board

barrettmug316The Northern Virginia Community College Board has selected Dr. Jerome “Jerry” Barrett to serve as chair of the College Board, effective July 1. The selection took place at the Board’s annual reorganization meeting on May 20 in Fairfax. Barrett has represented the City of Falls Church on NOVA’s regional advisory board for seven years, four of which he served as the foundation board liaison.

Barrett is a retired senior executive with the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service and previously served as a member of the Falls Church City School Board. “I am honored to be given the opportunity to work with President Templin, my fellow board members and the entire college as we continue to position Northern Virginia Community College as a premier institution,” Barrett said. “With over 120 areas of study that can lead to degrees or certificates, I am confident that the college will continue to meet the educational needs of our region and expand our involvement in the community.”

Barrett has played an active role in promoting student athletics and campus life, participating in numerous trips to lobby legislators in Richmond, and conducting a study about NOVA for the League of Women Voters of Falls Church.
