BalletNova to Open ‘Swan Lake – Act II’ Friday

BalletNova is presenting a mixed repertory performance of both classical and contemporary dance works this weekend at the Thomas Jefferson Theater, including “Swan Lake – Act II.”

BalletNova Artistic Director Nancie Woods is presenting her re-staging of Tchaikovsky’s classical favorite, “Swan Lake – Act II,” featuring local dancers Joe Ogren and Giselle Macdonald.

BNCD faculty member (and former Martha Graham company dancer) Constance Walsh has choreographed a new work, “Notes on Spring,” in the contemporary ballet genre. Also on the program is a performance by GinDance directed by Shu-Chen Cuff. GinDance is a participant in BalletNova’s new company incubator program, ChoreoLab, in which they receive free and discounted rehearsal space in trade for teaching classes and workshops. GinDance was founded in 2011, and will perform Cuff’s modern dance work “The Core.”

Performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets range from $5 – $23. Thomas Jefferson Theater is located at 125 S. Old Glebe Road, Arlington. For more information, visit BalletNova.org.
