With the filing deadline passed, it has been confirmed that Marcus Simon will be the Democratic nominee in the November election to fill Del. Jim Scott’s 53rd District seat in the Virginia State Legislature.

The heavily-Democratic district includes the City of Falls Church, and Del. Scott combined the news of his retirement with his endorsement of Simon last month. Simon has already received the endorsment of the Northern Virginia Association of Realtors (NVAR), which hosted a kick-off event for his campaign in Fairfax last week.

Simon is a long-time member of NVAR and served as chair of the NVAR Attorney Roundtable last year, and as chair of the NVAR Standard Forms Committee before that. He worked for Del. Scott in 1992-93 and later for Kate Hanley as Providence District Supervisor and Chair of the Fairfax County Board. Graduating law school in 1999, he was commissioned as an Army officer in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps and entered private law practice in 2003, co-founding the law firm of Leggett, Simon, Freemyers and Lyon in 2008. He announced this week he will attend, with wife Rachel, the annual banquet of the Falls Church Chamber of Commerce on April 20.
