F.C. Council Passes Emergency Measure to Advance Harris Teeter Plan

By an unanimous 6-0 vote tonight, the Falls Church City Council rushed a motion through as the opening item at its work session to establish that final action on the approval of a project for a new Harris Teeter be set for May 18.

The vote was highly unusual, being held at a work session and not a formal business meeting, but while no one openly said so tonight, it was done in the face of an emphatic caution from top Harris Teeter officials last week that without swift action, the project would be scrapped.

The project promises to add $1.2 million in new tax revenues to the City.
