5th Annual W&OD 5K Honoring Walter L. Mess to Take Place March 24

The fifth annual W&OD 5K, a race honoring the 100th birthday of Walter L. Mess, chairman emeritus of the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority, will be held next Sunday, March 24, at 4 p.m.

The event, sponsored by Friends of the W&OD Trail, Safety and Health Foundation, and Road Runner Sports, will start and finish at the American Legion Post 130, 400 N. Oak Street, Falls Church. Both runners and walkers are welcome; the course is a scenic, mostly flat course that spans from Oak Street to Shreve Road to Little Falls Street and back, all along the trail.

City of Falls Church Mayor Nader Baroukh will be on hand to welcome everyone, and Police Chief Mary Gavin will address race participants on safety.

Pre-registration is available online at safetyandhealthfoundation.org/WOD.
