Critter Corner: Kirby

Last week, the Pyne family lost its dog Kirby to old age. They got Kirby as a puppy from a local shelter, and he was a lifelong Falls Church resident, living all of his nearly 15 years at their home on Anne Street. He was a mixed breed, combining Airedale and probably Husky, which gave him his thick coat and curled bushy tail. Kirby was a loving companion at home, but his passion was for hiking with his family in the woods and fields of Virginia and Maryland, especially up and down the Potomac River. Any day of the week, in any weather – the colder the better – he was always eager to be out running, exploring, and taking in the sights, sounds, and smells of the great outdoors.
