New Richmond Bills Threaten ‘Public’s Right to Know’

There are at least four bills set for introduction into the Virginia State Legislature after the beginning of the year that would threaten the “public’s right to know,” according to the Virginia Press Association. The bills, House bills 1426, 1373 and 1378 and Senate bill 765, would, if passed, free local jurisdictions from the obligation to place legal notices in newspapers. The bills have all been introduced by Republicans, from Galax, Bristol, Roanoke and Fredericksburg.
