Son of Rep. Moran Pleads Guilty Of Assault on Girlfriend

Patrick Moran, son of U.S. Rep. Jim Moran whose 8th District includes the City of Falls Church, pleaded guilty to a charge of assault in Washington, D.C. today, stemming from an early-morning Dec. 1 incident in a bar in Adams Morgan section of the District.

Police arrested Moran after he was found fighting with his girl friend outside a 14th Street bar. Moran allegedly slammed his girlfriend’s head into the bars metal trash can cage, according to a report on the Washington City Paper. Police said the girl friend as “bleeding heavily from her nose and also observed that her nose and right eye were extremely swollen.”

In later developments today, Kelly Hofmann, the alleged victim girlfriend of Patrick Moran disputed the police report, saying, “This was an accident that has been blown out of proportion. The statements in the police reports are inaccurate. Pat and I were arguing. One of my high heels gave out and I fell into the side of a trashcan. On impact, I fractured my nose. False conclusions were made as a result.”

The office of Rep. Moran issued a statement saying, “The Congressman strongly condemns domestic violence. As was stated in court by both his son Patrick and his girlfriend Kelly, the situation was an accident. They were the only two people involved in the scene. In that sense, their statements are the only ones that matter. They are both very embarrassed by the situation, which involved drinking, and they are looking to move past it, and ask for their privacy to be respected.”
