Mary Ellen Henderson to Reopen Friday

Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School will reopen tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 6, after being closed the previous two days due to sewer and electrical system work, the school announced in a release this afternoon.

“We are home tomorrow – fully operational,” Mary Ellen Henderson Principal Seidah Ashshaheed told her staff the release said.

The school was closed to students both Wednesday and Thursday due to a sinkhole, a cracked sewer line and an underground cut power line. This was the second time this year the recently-constructed middle school has been closed due to sewer problems.

“I can’t share enough how much I appreciate all of the hard work that has taken place these past two days,” Superintendent Toni Jones told administrators this afternoon says the release. “And a big thank you goes out to the Falls Church City staff for their assistance in coordinating the Falls Church Community Center for day care, loaning us equipment for repairs and being so responsive and willing to help us. And of course to our families and staff – thank you so much for all of your flexibility and patience this week.”
