Mount Daniel School Evacuated Due to Gas Leak, Will Open On Time Friday

UPDATE: Mount Daniel Elementary School will open on time Friday as crews have restored water service after the water main break early Thursday, school officials reported tonight.

UPDATE: Officials report that the gas line has been repaired and service has been restored to Mount Daniel School. Crews are still working on restoring water service with hopes to complete them later tonight. A decision on classes tomorrow at the school will be announced as soon as possible.

Police and Fire Officials are at Mount Daniel School investigating an apparent gas leak.

The leak apparently was caused when crews, working to restore water service following a water main break earlier today, accidentally cut through a gas line. Students had been already been dismissed hours earlier and had been out of the building when the line was cut.

The remaining staff have been evacuated.

Falls Church Police, Fairfax County Fire and Washington Gas are on the scene at this time.
