Falls Church Resident Wins Virginia $1 Million Powerball

On the morning after the August 15 Powerball drawing, Roberto Ruiz glanced at his ticket, then set it aside and didn’t think any more about it. He should have looked a little more closely. That ticket was worth $1 million.

Fortunately, the Falls Church man looked again a few days later and discovered he had matched the first five numbers in the drawing. “I was in disbelief,” he told Virginia lottery officials as he claimed his prize. “I’m not really good at checking my tickets.” He bought it at the 7-Eleven at 201 South Washington Street in Falls Church. The winning numbers were 6-27-46-51-56 and the Powerball number 21. He used Easy Pick and allowed the computer to select the numbers on his ticket. Mr. Ruiz said he has no immediate plans for his winnings.
