A new Best of F.C. category this year, it is no surprise that Brown’s Hardware won for best retail store. It is a genuine Falls Church treasure, a throw-back well over a century to when it first opened its doors as a general store in 1883, that remains to this day the kind of place that has, well, everything! It’s hard to imagine something you may need around your house, other than food, that you can’t find there, and the venerable Mr. Hugh Brown, at 86 the grandson of the founder, is on hand almost every single day, as he has been since he took over the business from his father in 1949.

The store has been virtually unchanged since moving to its current location in 1959, and staff that Mr. Brown has working there have been with him for many years, as well, fully capable of finding and offering tips about almost anything you are looking for.
