Deadlocked Vote Tonight Could Foreclose Use of F.C. Surplus for School Needs

The News-Press has learned of a rumor circulating at the Falls Church City Hall about preparation of a procedural ruling which would be invoked in the event of a deadlocked vote at the F.C. City Council meeting tonight on the use of the City’s $3 million surplus from the just-ended fiscal year. With Vice Mayor David Snyder to be absent tonight, the vote on use of the surplus is expected to be evenly split between those wanting to hold all the funds for future capital improvement uses, and those who want to support the School Board’s urgent request that $500,000 of the surplus be used for technology upgrades. If a procedural ruling is introduced tonight reverting all the surplus, in the event of a deadlock, to the fund balance, then the School Board request will effectively be denied.
