Mulch Load Day is Aug. 18; Tree Quarantine Limits Use

Wood Mulch Load Day will take place Aug. 18 from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the City of Falls Church Recycling Center, 217 Gordon Road, Falls Church. City staff will use heavy machinery to load any open bed vehicle or trailer, or customers may bring containers and tools for self-hauling. City residents and non-residents are welcome, but due to the Thousand Cankers Disease quarantine affecting walnut trees, this mulch can only be used within the City of Falls Church. Residents are required to sign a waiver when picking up their mulch that waives their liability rights and certifies understanding of quarantine limitations. Liability waivers and notice of quarantine are available at the Recycling Center.

The wood mulch is an end product of roughly 575 tons of recycled yard debris from the June 30 derecho storm. In the event of rain, this event will take place Aug. 25. For more information, call the Solid Waste Hotline at 703-248-5160, option 6, or visit fallschurchva.gov/mulch.
