F.C. Students Earn College-Sponsored Merit Scholarships

More than 2,000 additional winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by colleges and universities were announced by National Merit Scholarship Corporation this week, and three students from Falls Church are among the recipients.

Michael J. Irvine, a graduate of George Mason High School, received the award from Claremont McKenna College. Aimi O. Nguyen, a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, received the award from The University of Texas at Dallas. Cornelio Rivera IV, a home-schooled student, received the award from the University of Maryland.

These Merit Scholar designees join over 2,500 other college-sponsored award recipients who were announced in late May. Officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program who will attend their institution.

College-sponsored awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.
