The leadership of the Hillwood Citizens Association expressed its appreciation for the efforts of the Falls Church Police Department and other regional law enforcement agencies in executing a successful outcome to the barricade incident on Hillwood Ave. in Falls Church that took 29 hours to be resolved last week.
Connie Morgan of the association said that a “basket of goodies” was hand-delivered to the police station from the citizens group to express its appreciation. Hillwood residents and pass-through traffic were disrupted by the police lines set up to cordon off the area around the 300 block of Hillwood until a single person threatening a gun and to set himself on fire was apprehended without incident and taken to a local hospital, charged with a felony, and remains in custody. Other residents of Hillwood expressed their support for the police effort, involving SWAT and other units from Fairfax County, Arlington County and the City of Alexandria, in addition to Falls Church, including their patience in the lengthy stand-off.
According to one, the only complaint was for lack of communication from the City to the neighborhood about what was going on.
