F.C. Police Confront Man Barricaded In Hillwood Ave. Home

BULLETIN, 10:01 a.m. EDT — The standoff on Hillwood Avenue in Falls Church continues. Hillwood Ave. remains closed from S. Roosevelt St. through Cherry St. Residents within the barricaded area should continue to use caution, according to a statement from the City issued this morning. If those residents need to leave their homes, they should call police dispatch at 703-241-5053. If residents need to enter their homes, they need to speak with officers stationed on Hillwood Ave. at Flagmaker Dr. Not all requests can be accommodated. Ideally, residents should stay in their homes or stay out of the neighborhood. The statement adds that the City of Falls Church Police Department thanks its jurisdictional partners for assistance during this event. City of Alexandria police are currently on-scene; Fairfax SWAT and Arlington County police also assisted through the night and remain on call for further help. The statement also noted that the City also thanks its residents and business owners affected by the street closures. “The City and everyone involved hope this concludes in a peaceful way,” the statement concludes.

BULLETIN, 10:30 p.m. EDT — About 45 minutes ago, police broke out windows in the Hillwood Ave. home and injected a harmless substance into the home in hopes of forcing the subject out in a peaceful manner, according to the Falls Church City public information office. As of this report, nothing new has developed.

BULLETIN, 8:24 p.m. EDT — Hillwood standoff not resolved as single male person remains armed and holed up in house on 600 block of Hillwood Ave. in Falls Church. Individual is alone in the house and fired shots earlier at unknown targets. Police and SWAT units have fired no shots and continue to try to establish contact with the individual.

City of Falls Church officials have confirmed that police are on the scene outside a residence in the 600 block of Hillwood Avenue where a man is barricaded inside.

Hillwood between Cleave Drive and Cherry Street has been blocked off and the City’s Public Information Office is in the process of setting up a media station near the site. According to sources, the man has a gun and and a red pick up truck was abandoned at the site in the middle of the road.

A Farifax County SWAT team has been called in to the scene.
