F.C. Rotary Honors Essay Contest Winners

rotaryWinners of the Rotary Four-Way Test Essay Contest were honored at the Falls Church Rotary Club’s Essay Awards Dinner on March 29 at the Harvest Moon Restaurant.

Pictured above are, from left to right, Essay Contest Chair Joe Scheibeler, Club President Lincoln Tucker, parents Joe and Merrie Wood, first-place winner Ella Wood, runner-up Ellie Cross, Ella’s teacher Kathryn Krall, third-place contestant Grace Craiker, parents Cynthia and Charles Cross and Jan Craiker. Ella, a seventh grader at Trinity School at Meadow View, received $75 for first place and read her essay at the Rotary meeting. Ellie, who attends Cooper Middle School, received $50 for second place and Grace, a Trinity School at Meadow View seventh grader, received $25 for third place. The winning essays were selected from 20 essays submitted by seventh and eighth graders from the Falls Church area discussing Rotary’s Four-Way Test, which states: “Of the things we think, say, or do – is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?”(Photo: Courtesy John Karickhoff)
