Equality Virginia Names Benton ‘OUTstanding Virginian’

The statewide Equality Virginia organization, advocating for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) rights, has announced that it will honor Falls Church News-Press owner-editor Nicholas F. Benton as an one of its “OUTstanding Virginians” for 2012 at its annual banquet in Richmond April 14.

“This award is bestowed to individuals who have represented the GLBT community with distinction through Virginia’s past and present,” according to the statement. “OUTstanding Virginians are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Virginians who have made a mark. Previous honorees include activists whose courage and dedication to equality have influenced our movement, and GLBT elected officials and business leaders who have achieved great success.
