Mustangs Win District Hoops Championship

George Mason High School’s varsity boys basketball team won the Bull Run District tournament last night with a 67-54 win over William Monroe High School.

The Mustangs finished the first quarter down 12-14 and shortened that lead to 35-36 by the end of the second quarter. They took the lead early in the third quarter when senior guard Jeremy Stewart hit two free throws, lost the lead for a few seconds and then regained the lead for good when senior guard/forward Philippe Griffiths scored two points on a fast break after stealing the ball on the defensive end of the court.

Senior guard Noel Obusan led the Mustangs in scoring with 20 points. Senior guard Eion Oosterbaan scored 14 points and senior forward Nate Ogle added 13 points for the Mustangs.

The Mustangs play in the first round of the Northern Virginia regional tournament Tuesday at Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School.
