Mustangs Win Hard-Fought Game Against Avalon School

George Mason High School’s boys varsity basketball team struggled to a 59-48 victory over The Avalon School last night. The Mustangs pulled ahead 17-10 in the first quarter and extended that lead to 31-23 by the end of the first half. In the third quarter, the Black Knights came back on the heels of lackluster play from George Mason.

Midway through the quarter, Coach Chris Capannola pulled the Mustang starting five off the court with the words “I’ve seen enough.” The move did not help the Mustangs, who turned the ball over to the Black Knights and allowed them to score two points at the end of the quarter to take a 38-39 lead. The Mustangs’ starters returned in the fourth quarter with a vengeance as they outscored the Black Knights 21-9.
