Varsity Swimming

George Mason High School swimmers came out on top last weekend in the boys and girls varsity swimming teams’ Saturday meet against Central High School at the Manassas Park Community Center.

The girls team scored 113 points against their opponent’s 56, and the boys team scored 116 to 53.

Mason boys team swimmers came in first in all three of the day’s relays, with the girls only giving up first place in the 400-yard free relay.

The meet was a strong showing for first-year students on the girls squad, with Mustang solo swimmers Beth Cashin, Sarah Miller and Madison Irwin placing first in their events. Also placing first in her event was senior Eva Estrada. Cashin’s performance in the 50-yard freestyle (26.22) qualified her for the state meet, and her time on the 100-yard breaststroke (1:13:63) broke a team record.

For the boys team swimmers, seniors Alex Valentino and Reid Back, sophomores Nick Roberson and Austin Gogal, and junior Lucas Cherry took first in single events.
