F.C. City Collecting Donations for Food for Others

Falls Church City’s Housing and Human Services Department is sponsoring a food drive this week to benefit Food for Others, a local non-profit food bank and food rescue operation serving Northern Virginia.

In FY2010, Food for Others helped 11,943 families in need. Between 2008 and 2010, it saw an increase of 67 percent in the number of families going to the warehouse for food assistance.

Collection boxes are located in City Hall, 300 Park Ave., in the Police Department, Housing and Human Services, and at the West Wing entrance.

Food for Others is in need of the following items: canned tuna, caned meats, peanut butter, jelly, soups, cereal, canned vegetables and fruit, dried or canned beans, macaroni and cheese, boxed meals, pasta and pasta sauce, rice, flour, sugar, fruit juice, coffee and tea.
