Caps Captain to Shop in Bailey’s Crossroads for Toys for Tots

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin – with the help of the GEICO Gecko, and Slapshot – will shop for toys for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation Friday, Dec. 2, from 2 – 3 p.m. at Toys “R” Us in Bailey’s Crossroads. Capitals alumnus and Comcast SportsNet analyst Alan May, Elliot Segal from DC101’s Elliot in the Morning and several U.S. Marines will join in the spree, spending $10,000 donated by Washington Capitals Charities on toys.

This event will kick off the Capitals’ Toy Drive, taking place at the Dec. 9 game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Fans are encouraged to bring new, unwrapped toys to the F Street entrance of Verizon Center before the game. The first 2,000 fans to bring a toy or make a monetary donation will receive a free poster of Ovechkin.

All of the toys bought during the shopping trip and collected at the Capitals’ Toy Drive on Dec. 9 will be distributed as holiday gifts to children in need in the Washington, D.C., area.
