The George Mason High School varsity football team finished a disappointing 2011 season with another lopsided road loss. The Mustangs lost 49-21 to the Manassas Park Cougars last Friday and finish the season with a 1-9 record and on an eight-game losing streak.
The Cougars running game was the difference and the Mustangs had no answer. Cougars senior running back John Byrd finished with 118 yards and two touchdowns.
The Cougars scored six touchdowns in their eight first half possessions without throwing a pass and built a 42-0 halftime lead. Four of the Cougars first half touchdowns were from 40 yards or longer.
The Mustangs were able to score three second half touchdowns, but the game had already been decided.
