Mason X-Country Teams Take Top Spots at Regional Meet

After the George Mason High School girls varsity cross country team took first place in the Bull Run District meet Oct. 26 and the boys team took second, both Mustang teams moved on to the Region B meet Nov. 2 at Panorama Farms and secured first-place finishes for the school.

The boys and girls teams were each in a field of 16 teams (four from the Bull Run District) and more than 100 runners.

The boys team, bested by Strasburg High School in its district meet, was able to overtake that team at the regional meet with three previously ill runners back in action.
For the boys team, Jesse Schaffer finished seventh (17:22), Jeremy K. Brown finished ninth (17:27), Jackson Jost finished 10th (17:36), Austin Gogal finished 15th (17:40), Paul Sanders finished 18th (17:56), Jeremy M. Brown finished 26th (18:16), and Paul Henninger finished 31st (18:25).

For the girls team, Michele de Mars finished third (20:14), Julia Estrada finished fourth (20:22), Eva Estrada finished sixth (20:34), Emma Vieillescazes finished eighth (21:00), Alicia Devereaux finished 15th (21:25), Lauren Meinhart finished 17th (21:35), and Lu Sevier finished 22nd (21:57).

Both teams were defending regional champions.

The top four finishers from this regional meet and those from three more regions will all compete at the state meet on Nov. 12 at Great Meadow.
