Concert to Support Church’s Organ Renovation

On Nov. 6, at 1 p.m., two noted area performers, Karin Paludan and Wesley McCune, will present “George, Ira and Friends” at the First Christian Church in Falls Church.

This cabaret-style recital showcases the charm and humor of George and Ira Gershwin, as well as songs by Leonard Bernstein and Kurt Weill. Concert donations will support the church’s organ renovation project.

The organ was installed in 1972 by Casavant-Frères, the company that is building the new organ for the Kennedy Center’s Concert Hall. A number of pipes were removed for repair while remaining pipes were either removed or wrapped for protection during repair of the organ chambers. All the pipes were reinstalled in September, returning the organ to its original beauty. In January a concert will be held to celebrate the completion of the renovation and the 40th anniversary of the instrument’s installation.

First Christian Church is located at 6165 Leesburg Pike, near the Seven Corners area. For more information, call 703-532-8220.
