In less than two weeks, election day will be upon us, and while in the City of Falls Church, contention exists involving only one ballot item – the referendum on whether the City’s municipal elections should be held in May or November – everything around the City is in a flurry and, in some cases, downright fanatical frenzy of electoral activity.
All Fairfax County Board of Supervisor and School Board seats at at stake in the election, and there are some hotly-contested state legislative races, too. For Democrats, maintaining their narrow 22-18 majority in the State Senate in Richmond is a top priority, and many of the biggest battles are underway pertaining to that downstate.
There are some major challenges around here, too, but while Republicans are dead serious about trying to take control of the State Senate and extend their majority in the House of Delegates, none of their candidates in this area are of the stature, or political maturity, to warrant their unseating incumbent Democrats. All that taken into account, the News-Press announces its following endorsements in nearby races:
Falls Church Referendum – Yes, to move local elections from May to November. More will be addressed about this next week.
State Senate District 35 (now covering Falls Church) – Incumbent Sen. Dick Saslaw.
