The body of a Falls Church woman was found in a creek in Elmira Heights, New York this past weekend.
Police have identified the body as Linda Cheplick, 49, of Falls Church. Elmira Heights Police Chief Rick Churches told the News-Press that Cheplick, along with her husband, was in the small New York village visiting her father-in-law. The home they were visiting is about 100 yards from the creek where the body was found, Churches said. The residence was sealed off for some time for the investigation, but access has since been restored to the homeowner.
Police found the body Sunday around noon after receiving a 911 call from an area resident.
An autopsy has been conducted, and police are awaiting toxicology results. Churches said that report may not be available for several weeks, but believes its results will provide police with a better understanding of what happened to Cheplick.
New York State Police have also been involved in the ongoing investigation.
