1.) What will you do to prepare for Taste of Falls Church?

I plan on appreciating the opportunity and experience!

2.) What food staple is never missing from your fridge or pantry?

I am a huge turkey fan. There’s always turkey sausage or turkey lunchmeat in my refrigerator.

3.) What is your guilty pleasure food?

This is a funny question because I have a plethora of guilty pleasure foods. I love Lumpia. It’s a dish from the Philippines and it’s my favorite! I cannot stop eating them if a plate is placed in front of me.

4.) Which holiday makes for the best meal?

Of course Thanksgiving! My family will tell you, when it’s my turn to prepare the Thanksgiving meal, you are not allowed in “my kitchen!”

5.) Who is your favorite dining partner?

I should say my husband, but I love hanging out with my good friends and experiencing new restaurants!

6.) What is the strangest thing you have ever eaten?

Oh my, I will never forget when someone tricked me into trying barbeque pig snout. It was not bad, but I could not get over the body part.

7.) What is your favorite cookbook or recipe?

My favorite recipe is Vanessa Williams’ Banana Pudding using Pepperidge Farms Chessmen cookies.

8.) Ketchup or mustard?

Mustard, preferably spicy!

9.) For an evening in, which do you prefer: cooking at home or ordering out?

Grilling! We grill out twice a week, even during cold months!

1.) What will you do to prepare for Taste of Falls Church?

I will refrain from eating for 12 hours, which is a hard thing for me to do and I will bring a healthy appetite. And I may go on a bike ride before the event.

2.) What food staple is never missing from your fridge or pantry?

I am a “healthy” snacker. In the fridge, there is some kind of cheese and cured meat. In the pantry, there is always dried fruit and some type of energy bar. And coffee, of course!

3.) What is your guilty pleasure food?

A milkshake made with ½ coffee – ½ chocolate ice cream with fresh strawberries and bananas. Don’t knock it, till you try it!

4.) Which holiday makes for the best meal?

Passover. My sweetheart, Bernadette, makes the best 40 garlic cloves chicken and the best Persian charoset (Hallaq), which is a mixture of apples, dates, raisins, nuts and various spices.

5.) Who is your favorite dining partner?

Bernadette

6.) What is the strangest thing you have ever eaten?

Uni (sea urchin) sushi.

7.) What is your favorite cookbook or recipe?

I have to admit I don’t cook, but I love the pictures in any Persian cookbook.

8.) Ketchup or mustard?

Ketchup. Makes everything taste better.

9.) For an evening in, which do you prefer: cooking at home or ordering out?

Ordering takeout…there are no dishes to clean.

1.) What will you do to prepare for Taste of Falls Church?

I would like to prepare more. But, I am strung out from answering these questions. It takes a lot to be appear witty and urbane.

2.) What food staple is never missing from your fridge or pantry?

I like graham crackers, but don’t tell anyone.

3.) What is your guilty pleasure food?

Red meat, or Oreos, but not at the same time.

4.) Which holiday makes for the best meal?

That is an easy one, Groundhog Day.

5.) Who is your favorite dining partner?

Anyone who is buying.

6.) What do you cook up for comfort food?

I don’t really cook. However, my wife makes a great pasta carbonara.

7.) What is your favorite cookbook or recipe?

We have a cream of wheat recipe passed down from my grandmother. I am sure it is a precursor to some of the thinking behind molecular gastronomy which is now all the rage. You could find this dish at Alinea, or El Bulli if they did breakfast.

8.) Ketchup or mustard?

Elevation Sauce

9.) For an evening in, which do you prefer: cooking at home or ordering out?

District Taco! Conveniently located on Lee Highway in Arlington.

1.) What will you do to prepare for Taste of Falls Church?

I’ll spend some quality time watching the Food Network, meditating to connect with my inner Julia Child, and shopping at the local CVS for seltzer and Rolaids. Post game – cheer at the Run for the Schools!

2.) What food staple is never missing from your fridge or pantry?

With a family there is never just one staple – it’s more like a staple smorgasbord. Fresh vegetables and red meat for me, avocados and cheese for the kids, Clif bars and Gatorade for my husband.

3.) What is your guilty pleasure food?

The midnight meat snack. I must confess, I am a night eater and it almost always involves something that moos, clucks, gobbles or oinks.

4.) Which holiday makes for the best meal?

Birthdays! No rules, no excuses and each year, I have a perfect reason to go out, try someplace new and eat too much.

5.) Who is your favorite dining partner?

My best foodie friend is Rachel Kinsey: she is a female cross between Adam Richman, Anthony Bourdain and Gordon Ramsey. She will eat anything, order a bit of everything, and has the palate of a well-trained chef. We’ve spent two decades traveling the world in search of great meals.

6.) What is the strangest thing you have ever eaten?

This is a moving target since it seems to be the latest meal my husband “attempts” to cook. I’ve already said too much. Second place, I once consumed a live, white worm in the Brazilian Amazon rainforest on some ridiculous survival expedition – never to be repeated again.

1.) What will you do to prepare for Taste of Falls Church?

Cancel my membership to the Clean Plate Club.

2.) What food staple is never missing from your fridge or pantry?

Nutella. Whether served on a slice of artisanal bread or a spare finger, I can’t get enough of it!

3.) What is your guilty pleasure food?

Fried bologna sandwiches. I don’t care if it’s all pig and cow feet and teeth, I want it sliced thick and fried between two pieces of toast.

4.) Which holiday makes for the best meal?

Thanksgiving seems the easy answer here, but my mom’s potato salad makes Easter my pick.

5.) Who is your favorite dining partner?

My husband, Alex. He always finds the best bet on a menu, and he’s pretty easy on the eyes.

6.) What is the strangest thing you have ever eaten?

Grasshoppers. And no, not the drink, the insect. They are very…exoskeleton-y.

7.) What is your favorite cookbook or recipe?

My mother-in-law, not long after I married, prepared me a collection of her favorite recipes in a three-ring binder that I often cook from.

8.) Ketchup or mustard?

Definitely mustard.

9.) For an evening in, which do you prefer: cooking at home or ordering out?

I’ll be honest – at this point I have a pretty solid relationship with the delivery guy at my local Thai food spot.
