With a “rib cutting” (a real rack of ribs, not a ribbon) featuring Falls Church Vice Mayor David Snyder and other City of F.C. dignitaries, the Famous Dave’s restaurant chain opened its tenth location in Virginia and 53rd company-owned location nationwide in downtown Falls Church at 370 W. Broad St. this morning.

Bob Barton, the general manager of the new Falls Church location, praised the cooperation and support from the Falls Church community he’s experience, and it was demonstrated by the dramatic arrival of the chain’s mascot, Wilbur the Pig, aboard a rig commanded by members of the Falls Church Volunteer Fire Department. Guido Van Maanen, the area director for Famous Dave’s, said the Minnetonka, Minnesota-based firm began about 25 years ago and got a solid foothold in Virginia by taking over four Red River Ribs restaurants in the 1990s.

“Today, we open our tenth Famous Dave’s restaurant in Virginia making ours the most popular barbecue in the state,” said Christopher O’Donnell, President and CEO of Famous Dave’s of America, commenting on the new Falls Church opening. “In addition to the extensive menu featuring our award-winning barbecue this new location, conveniently located in (the site formerly occupied by the Original Pancake House–ed.) the Broaddale Village Shopping Center, offers our guests a new store design featuring additional televisions to enjoy sporting events.”
Open Sunday through Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., guests can enjoy both lunch and dinner in the 5,400 square foot restaurant. Guests can dine in or order “BBQ To Go” by ordering on-line at www.famousdaves.com/order-online/ or by calling 703.533.3418. Catering for events and social gatherings of all sizes is available as well.

City dignitaries and VIPs were on hand for the gala opening this morning. In addition to Snyder, Councilman Lawrence Webb was on hand, along with Sally Cole, executive director of the F.C. Chamber of Commerce and a number of Chamber board members, and Assistant City Manager Cindy Mester and Becky Witsman and Rick Goff from the City’s Economic Development office.

“We are continually looking for ways to increase guest satisfaction,” O’Donnell continued in his statement. “On-line ordering improves restaurant efficiency, increases productivity and reduces ordering errors. As customers peruse our on-line menu, they can take advantage of Famous Dave’s Limited Time Offerings as well as all of our regularly offered ‘famous’ menu selections. It’s quick and easy. We are confident they will enjoy using this quick and easy ordering process.”

Famous Dave’s offers a menu of award-winning ribs, hickory smoked meats, and other barbecue favorites, such as St. Louis-style ribs, Texas beef brisket, Georgia chopped pork, country-roasted chicken, Wilbur beans, coleslaw and Dave’s famous bread pudding.
