Representatives of the Falls Church-based Tahirih Justice Center (TJC) were surprised with a $1,000 donation Tuesday night from the Tysons Corner/McLean Kiwanis club. TJC is a nonprofit organization helping immigrant women and girls who are fleeing violent situations become established in the U.S. Kiwanis is a global volunteer organization with more than 7,000 clubs in 80 nations. The local Kiwanis chapter gave the donation as part of its ongoing community service efforts.

TJC’s Senior Social Services Associate Elizabeth Nehrling and Immigration Staff Attorney Lindsay Harris were on hand to accept the club’s donation after speaking to its members about the center’s mission and volunteer opportunities. In addition to the donation, Nehrling and Harris also accepted items collected by Kiwanis club members to help the center’s clients and their children, including Target gift cards, school supplies, and feminine hygiene products.
