On Monday Night the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce welcomed George Mason’s new men’s basketball coach Paul Hewitt to the Northern Virginia community.
Hewitt, who is known for his great ability to speak and recruit basketball talent, was able to wow the crowd at Maggiano’s in Tysons Corner. Hewitt has coached five first-round draft picks in the NBA, including superstars Chris Bosh and Thaddeus Young. Hewitt stressed the importance of education and hard work on and off the court during his talk. He joins the Patriots after spending 11 seasons at ACC school Georgia Tech, and said he is excited to take over a winning program that Jim Larranaga was able to build over the last decade. When asked about remaining the best program in the state, Hewitt responded, “We not only want to remain the best program in the state, we want to win on a national level.”
