Former F.C. Resident, Pastor Dies

Jeffry Leonard Morris Hendrix has died. He was born Dec. 14, 1954, to Lucille Marie Campbell Hendrix and Cecil Leonard Hendrix in Bremen, Indiana, the youngest of five children.

He was married to Mochel Morris, pastor of Christ Crossman UMC in Falls Church for almost 33 years. He was the father of Andrew Campbell Morris Hendrix and Maxwell Mochel Morris Hendrix, and the grandfather of Aaliyah Teresa Hendrix.

Predeceased by his parents and his brother David (Nancy), he is survived by his wife, sons and granddaughter, his sisters Cecille Huff (Alan), Linda Nightingale (Charles), and by his brother Dennis Hendrix (Jill), eleven nieces and nephews, and 21 great-nieces and great-nephews.

He received a BA in religious studies from DePauw University in 1977, and an MDiv from The Divinity School, Duke University in 1980. Ordained a deacon in the United Methodist Church in 1979, and an elder in 1984, he served as a United Methodist pastor until 2001. After retiring, he was confirmed in the Roman Catholic Church in 2001, and taught sixth grade at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School in Arlington for 10 years. He was a certified catechist in the Arlington Diocese. He was the author of A Little Guide for Your Last Days.

Friends may call at Christ Crossman UMC, 384 N. Washington St., Falls Church, from 4 – 6 p.m. on Friday, July 1, and where a celebration of life will be held at 7 p.m. A mass of Christian burial will be offered at St. James Catholic Church, 103 N. Spring St., Falls Church, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 2. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
