City Plans Weekend Activities for Civil War’s 150th

The City of Falls Church will commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the ascent of Thaddeus Lowe and the first military reconnaissance in America with a variety of events including a film premiere, ballooning demonstration with re-enactors and Civil War History, followed by a 150th year anniversary picnic with live Civil War-era music and crafts, all happening next weekend:

“Ballooning in the Civil War” will premiere, Friday, June 24, 7:30 – 9:30, at the Falls Church Community Center, 223 Little Falls St., Falls Church.

A Thaddeus Lowe balloon demonstration will take place Saturday, June 25, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., at Cherry Hill Park, 312 Park Ave., Falls Church.

The Civil War Sesquicentennial Picnic will be held Sunday, June 26, 4 – 7 p.m., at Frady Park, located at the corner of East Broad and North Fairfax streets.
