Alfred “Al” Moseke, a long-time valued friend of the News-Press, died February 25, 2011 after a lengthy illness.
Moseke was born in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska, to Paul Moseke and Leona (Yilk) Moseke. He is survived by his wife, Dolores, his daughter Lara and son-in-law Jeff Kitchen, his son David and daughter-in-law Eleanor, his daughter Tonya and son-in-law Don Gilchrist, his four grandchildren Jay, Jared, and Jacob Kitchen and Maya Gilchrist, his brother James and sister-in-law Wilma, his brother Richard and sister-in-law Mary Lou and his sister Rosemary Koch. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He received his M.A. In counseling at Creighton University in Omaha and did post-graduate work at Catholic University.
He was always active in the community. He was president at the American Juvenile Arthritis Organization and was on the Committee for Lorton Federal and a member of the Lions Club. He spent countless hours campaigning for Democrats.
He worked 17 years for the Veterans Administration and retired in June 2010 after 20 years with the Homeless Shelter at Bailey’s Crossroads. His last years were spent working at the Burmingham Green Nursing Home in Manassas.
