A dedication ceremony for the Joanne Lee Harris Memorial Bench will be held on Sunday, April 3, at 2 p.m. in Cherry Hill Park.

The bench was ordered through the City of Falls Church and paid for with funds donated by the family and friends of Joanne Lee Harris. It has been installed next to the playground in the park, replacing a bench which was no longer usable.

The solid bronze plaque reads in part “A Friend to Falls Church” because of Harris’ efforts on behalf of citizens of Falls Church.

Harris’ philanthropic endeavors included 25 years of weekly volunteering at the Mary Riley Styles Public Library, as well as active memberships in the Republican Committee, the PEO Sorority, the Village Preservation and Improvement Society, the Falls Church Recycling Committee and the local garden club. Harris also was an active volunteer with the biannual Falls Church City Cleanups, the Falls Church Presbyterian Church Flower Committee and the Cherry Hill Farmhouse, in addition to private efforts for Falls Church charities.
