Mason Boys Battle Madison in Bull Run Tourney

After falling to Clarke County High School last week for the district title, the George Mason High School boys basketball team takes to the road tonight, squaring off against  Madison County at Clarke in the Bull Run District tournament semifinal.

When they lost to Clarke, 41-34, last Thursday, the Mustangs lost the chance to host the tournament and win first their district title in a decade.

“Clarke shut us down with their physical defense,” Mason coach Chris Capannola said.  “When we moved the ball and made hard cuts we got easy shots.  But we had some really careless turnovers, and when they got up on us mid-way through the fourth quarter, we had to take some chances and they capitalized on that.”

“We now have to go on the road to win any more district games,” Capannola said.

Now the Mustangs look for another shot to play the rival.

“We play on Wednesday and if we are fortunate enough to win, we might get another shot at Clarke,” Capannola said in an interview this week.

Clarke County played Madison County in the semifinal. The district championship match will be held Friday night at Clarke.

UPDATE:  According to the Madison County Athletics website, Mason won last night’s game 61-53.
