Falls Church City’s Mary Riley Styles Public Library is offering Fine Free Week Feb. 14-19. Fines will be forgiven on all items that are overdue and returned during that time. However, fines for previously overdue items and fees for lost or damaged items will not be waived from patron records.

Fine Free Week will serve as a transition to the new 25¢-a-day overdue fine that goes into effect on March 1. The Library Board of Trustees recently approved the increase (from the current 20¢-a-day fine) to be more in line with neighboring library systems (most of which already charge 30¢ or more). The DVD and video overdue fine will remain $1 per day per item.

Additionally, the Library Board approved a $3 charge – also starting March 1 – for all interlibrary loan requests to cover associated postage costs. This service is available only for residents of the City of Falls Church.

For questions about the Fine Free Week or the new overdue fine and interlibrary loan fee, stop by the Circulation Desk or call 703-248-5031. The Mary Riley Styles Public Library is located at 120 N. Virginia Ave.
