Longfellow Science Olympiads Take 2nd Place

The Longfellow Middle School Science Olympiad team earned a second place trophy in a recent competition held in Ohio, competing against several of the top middle school teams in the country. Team members earned 23 top medals and ribbons, placing in 16 of the 23 events.

The Longfellow Middle School Science Olympiad team earned a second place trophy in a recent competition held in Ohio, competing against several of the top middle school teams in the country. Team members earned 23 top medals and ribbons, placing in 16 of the 23 events.

First place medals went to Tara Abrishami, Yunkyu Bae, Junyoung Hwang, Tai Kao-Sowa, Billie Malès, Winston Ou, Tajin Rogers, Alex Wendt, Tiger Zhang, Kevin Zhou, and Kyle Zhou.

At Longfellow, Science Olympiad is an afterschool club for students who are interested in science. National and state organizations sponsor competitions between schools that culminate in the Science Olympiad National Tournament.

Events range from academic events such as anatomy and fossils to engineering events such as bottle rockets and catapults. Longfellow has won the state championship for the last five years, and placed tenth in the nation last year.
