Margaret Moses Dale of the popular Falls Church business Dale Lumber Company and a resident of West Falls Center in Potomac Falls died on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at Inova Loudon Hospital in Leesburg.
Born in Chattanooga, Tenn. to Samuel Dodge Moses and Bertha Russell Moses, she was raised and schooled in Washington, D.C., graduating from Western High School and American University. She married Lawrence T. Dale in 1947, and they settled in Arlington, where they raised four children. Upon the death of her husband in 1968, Mrs. Dale assumed the daily management of the family business, Dale Lumber Company, Inc., on Gordon Road in Falls Church.
Dale Lumber Company was well known to many Falls Church residents, the company having moved to Falls Church from Clarendon in the early 1950’s. The company operated at the Gordon Road location until 1997, when it moved to Fairfax Station. Mrs. Dale’s was a familiar face behind the counter, and many have fond memories of her. She continued to be active in the business in its present Hamilton location until recently.
Mrs. Dale is survived by her son Lawrence T. Dale III and by her daughters Margaret Dale Lewis and Susan Dale Thomas and by 16 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at The Falls Church, in the historic church, on February 4 at 1 p.m. The service is open to all who would like to attend.
