Mustang Girls Top Spartans, Boys Fall at Saturday Meet

Going against some of the fastest swimmers in AA Dulles District, the George Mason High School boys and girls swimming team came away with a split, posting very respectable scores against Broad Run High last Saturday afternoon.

Swimming at the Claude Moore Recreation Center, the Mustang girls topped the Spartans, 160-124 while the boys fell to their opponents, 167-118.
Mason swimmers sophomore Julia Estrada and juniors Glen Jordan, Carolyn Schmitt and Leah Thirkill placed first for the girls in both the 200 yard medley relay and the 200 yard free relay, while Estrada and Thirkill along with freshman Sara Mills and senior Alicia Pierce came out on top in the 400 yard free relay.
Individually, Pierce was the top swimmer for the girls 200 yard free, Thirkill took first in the 100 yard free and Schmitt was tops in the 100 yard breast.
For the boys, Mason senior Will Doty won the 100 yard fly.

On the season, the boys are 4-2 (3-2 in the district) while the girls are 3-3 (3-2 district). The Mustangs next meet is this Friday against Potomac Falls at Claude Moore Recreational Center in Sterling.
