The Falls Church Music Study Club is celebrating its 100th anniversary this month.
The club’s first meeting place was at the Falls Church Episcopal Church, though tradition has become that meetings are held in private homes.
The club meets once a month with the exception of July and August. After a brief business meeting and music program of usually an hour ending with a sing-a-long, refreshments are served and there is a time to visit.
The club was organized for the purpose of studying music and to listen to performances provided by its own members and, occasionally, by guests.
For most of its years the club has required that, in order to join, each member must perform a musical piece or provide a paper on a musical topic. Piano and voice are most often heard but a wide range of instruments have made an appearance at club meetings.
The club currently has 23 members who live across Northern Virginia.
