F.C. Pushes Firearms Control, Gays Protection

The two top priorities adopted unanimously by the Falls Church City Council Monday night for action by the Virginia state legislature in its upcoming session call for prohibiting possession of firearms and other dangerous weapons into any City-owned or publicly-leased property, and for protecting “the basic right of all persons to be free from discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, disability, medical conditions, sexual orientation, including gender identity.”

The Council also calls for “revisions to Virginia’s existing pedestrian legislation to clarify the responsibilities of drivers and pedestrians,” and calls for “legislation that would require motorists to stop for pedestrians in crosswalks at unsignalized intersections on roads where the speed is 35 miles per hour or less.”
