Area cyclists visited St. Anthony’s Church in Falls Church Monday night to take advantage of a light-installing event hosted by Fairfax Advocates for Better Bicycling.

Transurban-Fluor provided grant money that allowed for the purchase of the lights, which were installed by volunteers from Transurban-Fluor, as well as a volunteer from Spokes, Etc.

“We installed lights on nearly 80 bikes, almost all to people who depend on their bikes for transportation, many of whom work at night and ride without lights,” said Bruce Wright, chairman of FABB. “Now they have lights.”

A special guest also turned out for the occasion, Mason District Supervisor Penny Gross.

“Supervisor Gross was impressed when she was driving to the event when she saw several cyclists leaving the event with their lights ablaze,” Wright said.

The next giveaway event the group has scheduled is set for Tuesday, Nov. 30, from 5 -7 p.m. at the W&OD Trail and the Route 7 bridge, on the east side next to West End Park.
